University excellence

The aim of the School of Engineering in San Jorge University is to achieve a university excellence translating into the comprehensive education and the professional quality of their graduates, into the level of its services and activities, and into a permanent process of modernization and educative and technological innovation.

We offer qualifications adapted to the new social and work demands of our environment. We educate people enabling them to generate the changes that society requires, to face up challenges and to take profit of opportunities.

Our teachers can transmit and generate knowledge in order to help the integration and participation of students and their social responsibility.

We try to internationalize our study programs using English as a lingua franca, promoting exchanges with universities worldwide and appreciating cultural diversity.

Teaching innovation

One of our distinguishing features is the renewal of the teaching and learning methods used by our teaching staff as well as the use of the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

In the School of Engineering of San Jorge University, the personal consideration of each student and the close interaction student-teacher is a reality. This is reflected in the small number of student per room and in the ratio of teachers-students, which does not exceed 7 students per teacher.

Students in the School of Engineering do not just follow theoretical and practical sessions guided by a teacher, but they can also have personal support of teachers in the special rooms for tutorship. Moreover, a tutor accompanies students throughout their personal, academic and professional training and helps them to discover their objectives and to discover themselves.

Our teachers are not mere transmitters of information but they arouse reflection, creativity and the ability to learn to learn. Through the use of new active teaching-learning methodologies, students play the leading role, and discover their objectives and themselves. Students will not only develop projects, solve practical cases, participate in simulations..., but they will also learn to manage their time and will know the importance of complementing their abilities with each other.

All the students and teachers have a tablet PC. From any place with Internet connection, students can access to our University Teaching Platform, an education support Web tool which facilitates the communication between teachers and students, and the development of the academic activity. In all the premises there is Wi-Fi Internet connection. Moreover, the School of Computer Engineering has its own laboratories and we have signed agreements with leading companies where students will be able to use state-or-the-art material.

Our implementation of the EHEA

The internationalization of our studies has been achieved with the use of English as a lingua franca. We have a specific English module in the program of our degree course; however, English is gradually integrated in all the subjects in such a way that more than the 80% of the subjects in the last two years are given entirely in English. Moreover, all of our students have the option of doing part of their studies abroad in universities that have international itineraries in English and, in our seminar rooms, they share experiences with students from all over the world.

Continuous assessment is not just applied in order to guarantee the correct evolution of our students, but also to the design of our degree course, to our teaching staff’s work, to the quality of our premises... As a comprehensive process of the Evaluation Procedure and Improvement of Degree Programs, San Jorge University wants to count on outside auditors who will participate in periodic reviews of the degree course, and there are continuous and permanent improvement programs in both infrastructures and teacher training.

Moreover, the University has decided to check the results of the students’ learning through a specific external system for each area of knowledge. For example, for the English learning, students are expected to take the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam , which assesses their knowledge of the English language and helps students to gain access to educational institutions and companies where a knowledge of English is essential.

Our model for the future

Our model for the future is based on academic excellence. However, we do not only seek excellence in our degree programs; we also seek academic, scientific and technical excellence in postgraduate programs.

Our model for the future will promote teaching research and scientific outreach, increasing our participation in national and international scientific events.
