USJ students finish third in the final of the National Business Competition, “Emprende con Bancaja"

A team from the USJ School of Computer Engineering consisting of students Adrián Villellas, David Gutiérrez, Laura Duato, Juan Culebras, Marcos Broto with Alfonso Puértolas, one of the lecturers, finished third in the final of the ‘Emprende con Bancaja’ competition held in Madrid.

The final, held at the Incyde Foundation who sponsored the event, consisted of five teams, from the universities of Granada, Valencia, Complutense in Madrid, San Jorge and Seville, with the latter eventually winning it.

It was based on planning and running a business with economic difficulties over four rounds of decisions. The USJ team did well: finishing third, just behind the runners-up.

At the awards ceremony, the president of the Incyde Foundation stressed that this year more than 300 teams had entered, and hoped that such events were a training ground for young entrepreneurs. For their part, the Bancaja representative mentioned the level of all the participants and the quality of the teams reaching the final.

In addition, the School of Computer Engineering team received many plaudits from those present for being the only technological team reaching the final, which made their achievements even more creditworthy.

The Government of Aragon has authorised Computer Science to be taught at San Jorge University as an integrated distance learning course.

On January 26, 2010, the Government of Aragon ratified the agreement authorising Computer Science to be taught at San Jorge University, including as an integrated learning course from the academic year 2010-2011.

On October 29, 2009, San Jorge University requested authorisation from the Department of Science, Technology and University to teach Computer Science as an integrated learning degree course. The Aragon Agency for University Quality and Planning responded to this application on December 23, 2009 by issuing a report stating that the documentation provided by the private San Jorge University meant that it had properly followed all steps to introduce changes in the verified curriculum: the San Jorge University Board approved the expansion of the teaching of Computer Science in the above form, while maintaining the campus-based course. It has notified the University Council of the proposal approval and has requested authorisation to implement the new form of mixed learning from the Department of Science, Technology and the University. In addition, it is stated that the extension to that type of education does not involve any changes to the Degree certificate offered, ie there are no substantial differences between the two types. The degree objectives and skills required by the student remain unchanged.

A group of Computer Science students from San Jorge University visit the AST

The Aragon Telematics Service Centre (AST), located in Walqa Technology Park (Huesca), received a group of San Jorge University Computer Science students to give them an in-depth view of the technology services management being done for the Government of Aragon.

The managing director of AST, Fernando García Mongay, shared their experiences in technology services management models provided for the local government with these fourth year students and the lecturer Alfonso Puértolas, from the “Projects Presentation” course.

At the meeting, AST technicians explained the two main projects being undertaken by AST in Walqa. The first is the Computer Services Centre (CSI), aimed at strengthening the technology infrastructure and services information of the Government of Aragon. While the second is the Knowledge Centre on Electronic Public Services, which acts as the main showcase for technologies and projects and is based on the exhibition, training and research in technology for electronic public services.

The Aragon Telematics Service (AST) is a public entity within the Department of Science, Technology and University of the Government of Aragon. It is responsible for providing Information Communication Technology (ICT) services for the Government of Aragon.

It provides technical assistance and support for all employees and departments in the Government of Aragon and carries out maintenance work for 12,000 workstations, while its telecommunications team manages the Aragonese Communications Network.
